Stencil Designs Can Make An Old Dresser Look New

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Before you decide to toss out that old piece of furniture we want you to check out this fab makeover. We are excited to share a dresser makeover using the French Poem Allover Stencil that is sure to inspire. All it took was paint, one of our furniture stencils, and a dash of creativity to give an old dresser a fresh new look. Come take a look. We'd like to introduce Sue, the creative DIYer and furniture makeover queen behind the blog A Purdy Little House. This month Sue had chosen to participate in the Furniture *Renew*Refresh*Restyle* Challenge. It's a monthly challenge where she teams up with other bloggers to share new furniture makeover projects. She had a boring white dresser sitting in her daughter's room for the past ten years. Here is what it looked like before its makeover. It was in sad shape but Sue welcomed the task to make it over. March's furniture task required the participants to use milk paint. She chose a pretty blue and white color combination and you can read all about how she sanded it down and painted it using FolkArt Milk Paint on her blog. We're going to focus on the fun part, stenciling! Sue had browsed our furniture stencil collection and fell in love with the French Poem Stencil. This beautiful typography stencil looks hand-written which adds to its romantic look. Sue commented, "I love the fact that this pretty French poem written in the 19th century is all about cherishing every moment. I’ve never used a stencil before and I can honestly say it was fairly easy. " She positioned the typography stencil pattern on the front of the dresser. Then she painted the pattern using white milk paint. If you're trying to recreate this, pour your paint onto a plate or paint tray. Roll your dense foam roller into the paint. Roll off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Painter's tape can help hold the stencil in place. Next you will paint the design onto the dresser with the dense foam roller. Once the pattern is complete, you'll need to reposition the stencil to complete the design. Simply pick up the stencil, align it, and continue painting the pattern. To finish the project, Sue placed the drawer pulls back onto the dresser. Are you ready to see how it all turned out? Here is her stenciled dresser!
