Farmhouse Wall Stencil Preparation

Before you begin stenciling a wall, your base coat wall color should be Navajo White by Benjamin Moore in a flat sheen. Stenciling over paint in a flat sheen and applying a light coat of repositionable spray adhesive to the back of your wall stencil are two affective ways to reduce bleed while stenciling.

Step One: Add Beige As Your Farmhouse Stencil Base

Hang your Olive Branches farmhouse stencil at the very top of your wall with low tack blue painters tape. While shopping for your perfect farmhouse wall stencil, don't forget to get a Clip-On Stencil Level! This reusable wall stencil level is the EASIEST way to make sure your stencil pattern is straight every time!

Each coat should take about 1-2 minutes to dry. Make sure it's completely dry before adding the next color to your farmhouse stencil for walls.

Step Two: Green Botanical Accents

We got our acrylic paint from Michael's, but you can get this color at any local craft store! With very little paint on your brush for stenciling, stipple (pounce) your stencil brush over the olives and branches.

If you have excess paint on your brush for stenciling, wipe it off on a paper towel. Then lightly swirl the stencil brush over the tops and bottoms on the leaves. This will give the leaves some dimension!

Once dry, align the farmhouse wall stencil with the previously painted area, in this case an olive, and repeat!

Over the past few years, designers have taken the idea of Farmhouse Style and evolved it into serene feeling you get when you enter a home. This trend is filled with neutral color schemes, rustic accents, and contemporary design elements that surround the home owner with a comfortable yet sophisticated look. Welcome this feeling into YOUR home with a little DIY motivation & the perfect farmhouse stencil.
