Stencils Give Holiday Packages A Festive Look

Welcome back, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! If you're tired of the same old Christmas wrapping paper, then you should consider using stencils to give your holiday gifts a couture look. Stenciling gift wrap is easy to do and it can instantly add hand-made charm to your package. Today we're going to walk you through the simple steps to create your own stenciled wrapping paper. We'd like to welcome back Natalie, the clever crafter and blogger behind Doodlecraft. Natalie decided that with the holiday season upon us, she would create her own special DIY wrapping paper using stencils. She browsed the new Holiday Stencil Collection and fell in love with the Christmas Ornaments Craft Stencil. She purchased some plain craft paper and then used the whimsical holiday pattern to add some personalized charm to her gifts. Here's the scoop on how to create DIY stenciled gift wrap.

First you're gonna need this stuff listed below:

• Kraft paper roll
• A stencil (for this project the Christmas Ornaments Craft Stencil was used)
• Dense Foam Roller with Handle <--- We prefer the one in this link.
• Stencil brush
• Painter's tape
• Small paint tray or plastic plate
• Paper towels
• Craft paint found at Michaels or JoAnns

Gather Materials: Start the stencil project by gathering all of the materials listed above. Start Stenciling: Roll out the kraft paper on a smooth surface like a dining room table. Then position the stencil design on the kraft paper. You can secure the stencil in place using painter's tape (if necessary). Pour your craft paint onto a plate or paint tray. Then lightly coat your roller or stencil brush with paint. Be sure to roll or brush off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Next paint the stencil design on the kraft paper. For this project, Natalie used white craft paint. Complete the Pattern: Allow the paint to dry a little and reposition the stencil so you can continue to paint the pattern on the entire surface. Once it's dry, you are ready to wrap!
