Stencil Patterns Make Crafting Custom Accent Pillows Easy!

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. Did you know that our accent pillow stencil kits make crafting custom accent pillows super easy? In fact, no prior stenciling experience is needed to complete this DIY project. Does this sound too good to be true? Well then come take a look at this crafty stenciled pillow project using one of our accent pillows stencils. We'd like to introduce Erin, the clever crafter behind the blog Francois et Moi. Erin has always loved the look of the Mexican Otomi pattern. The hand-crafted, hand embroidered design is beautiful but it's also super expensive. Erin really wanted to incorporate this pattern into her home decor and since she couldn't afford to purchase authentic Otomi textiles, she decided to craft her own using our stencil designs. The first thing she did was purchase a plain white pillow cover for her Otomi project. She prefers over-sized accent pillows as opposed to the 17" inch square pillows that we offer on our website. Then she browsed our website for the perfect Otomi pattern. Erin fell in love with our Otomi Pillow Stencil, a 17" x 17" inch stencil that is perfect for custom accent pillows. Erin set up her supplies and started stenciling. She inserted a piece of cardboard into her pillow cover to catch any bleed. If she had purchased out Otomi Accent Pillow Stencil kit it would have come with all of the supplies for this project including a 17" pillow cover, pillow insert, and cardboard frame for easy stenciling. Then she taped her pillow cover down on a flat surface. Place the stencil design on top of the white pillow cover and secure it in place using tape. Then paint the Otomi Stencil using a stencil brush. Erin used Beetle Black acrylic craft paint from Martha Stewart for this project. She poured the paint onto a foam tray and then lightly coated the stencil brush. Be careful not to overload the brush with paint. Brush off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Erin peeled back the stencil to reveal the pretty pattern! Are you ready to see how her crafty project turned out? Here it is! Erin commented, "Though I will be keeping the pillows inside, I did want to try them outside just to see how they might look.
