Ikea Dresser Overhaul Using A Stencil
Stencils Are An Easy DIY Furniture Makeover Solution

We can't help but scroll through the pages of Houzz admiring the pretty pattern on furniture and then we come across the price tags and inlay dreams sizzle out fast. The good news is that we have a stencil that can help you achieve that designer look for a fraction of the price. Today we're going to share a furniture makeover project that is sure to inspire.
We'd like to introduce Alison, the creative DIYer behind the blog
Stella + Olive. For months, Alison had pined over furniture with a bone inlay. She said, " I drool over images online and when I visit a local store that has some pieces, I always find myself next to them in a daze, running my hands along the slightly irregular surface, turning over the price tag and .........HAVING MYSELF A HEART ATTACK." Awe, we feel your pain Alison. Then she discovered our
Indian Inlay Stencil Kit and was amazed by our stencil inspiration using this simple stencil set. Since Alison already had two dressers from Ikea sitting in her garage she was all ready go. Here's what they looked like before the project.
These were plain Jane dressers just waiting to be stenciled! Alison primed the wood and then painted it using a neutral gray hue. Then she positioned the stencil on the top of the dresser and used a bit of blue painters tape to hold it in place.
If you're trying to recreate this, pour your paint onto a plate or paint tray. Alison used white acrylic craft paint for the pattern. Dip your stencil brush into the paint. Brush off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Next you will paint the design onto the dresser with the stencil brush. Once the pattern is complete, you'll need to reposition the stencil to complete the design. Simply pick up the stencil, align it, and continue painting the pattern.
Once the stencil was complete, Alison added decorative knobs that she purchased off ebay for about $2 each. Presto chango, bet you would never guess this started out as a plain wooden dresser from Ikea!
