Stencil A French Poem On A Vintage Dresser
Furniture Stencils Give Beat Up Furniture, Updated Style
Good morning, my
Cutting Edge Stencils friends. A hand-me-down piece of furniture can be easily be transformed into a family heirloom using paint and our
furniture stencils. A furniture makeover can be one of the most rewarding and cost-effective DIY decorating projects. Our craft size patterns can make an old dresser into something fresh and stylish. Come see how one creative fan gave a beat up dresser a splash of stenciled style.
We'd like to introduce you to Grace, a creative Hometalk contributor and stencil fan. Grace and her husband have been married for 25 years. Her husband had brought his boyhood dresser to their home when they got married. This solid pine wood piece had served its purpose for their three children. Grace knew that after all of these years, it was time to breathe some new life into it. Here is what the dresser looked like before:
The first thing she did was remove the hardware and fill in the holes with wood putty. Grace sanded the entire dresser. Then it was ready to be painted!
Grace decided to paint the base of the dresser using
Modern Master's shimmering metallic paint in snow flake. She had been inspired by a wooden bench project that she had spotted on Artsy Chicks Rule using our French Poem Craft Stencil. This popular French typogrpahy-inspired pattern is perfect for crafting
DIY furniture projects.
Once the bottom of the dresser had been painted, Grace stained the top of the dresser using
Minwax Jacobean stain. Now she was ready for the fun part,
stenciling! She placed the
craft stencil on the left side of the dresser top. She used painters tape to hold it in place and a dense foam roller to paint the typography pattern in metallic white. After each section of the stencil was painted, Grace would lift the stencil and reposition so she could carry the pattern across the table.
Grace removed her stencil to reveal the pretty pattern. Here is what it looked like:
To protect her project, Grace applied several coats of
Modern Master's Acrylic Polyurethane and silver knobs. She had this to say about her stencil project,"
This was my first major stencil project and when I lifted the stencil off, it was so beautiful and I was beside myself!"
We absolutely love this dresser transformation. It's amazing how Grace was able to take an old piece of furniture and turn it into a family heirloom simply with a fresh coat of paint and a pretty stencil pattern.
