Stencil Patterns Can Enhance A Rustic Wooden Side Table

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! We love to see items rescued from trash and transformed using our stencil patterns. Paint and a pretty stencil design you can give your curbside find a fresh new look. Today we’re going to share a wooden spool that was rescued from a dumpster and enhanced with our Prosperity Mandala Stencil. Come take a look... We'd like to introduce Elizabeth, a creative DIY, Hometalk contributor, and owner of Creative Rustic Charm. Elizabeth shared that she was at her mother's assisted living facility when she spotted a young man wheeling an empty cable spool down the hall. She said, "The vulture in me took over as I spied a potential project slowly being rolled out of my greedy grasp. " Here is what the spool looked like before its makeover: The first thing she did was sand down wooden spool to remove any rough parts. Then she applied a stain using Minwax Gel Stain in Walnut. Elizabeth used a chip brush to apply the gel stain and let it sit over night. Elizabeth wanted to add a pretty pattern to the top of her stained spool so she browsed our large collection of stencil patterns and chose the Prosperity Mandala Stencil. She said, " I LOVE this Stencil!" Elizabeth placed the Mandala pattern on the top of the wooden spool. Then she painted the Mandala design in acrylic white craft paint using a stencil brush. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to roll off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. After the stencil was complete, Elizabeth applied a clear coat of Varethane polyurethane. She wanted to protect her pretty Mandala pattern. Are you ready for the big reveal? Here is the wooden spool makeover. Wow, we can hardly believe this wooden spool was once headed for the trash.
